Today we have with us the lovely Ménesa Campbell, style, fashion and beauty blogger, and founder of Clever Glamour Momma.
Ménesa is a mom of three and lives in the United Kingdom, though she’s originally from the Caribbean. If you want to know more about her life and blogging tips, don’t miss out this interview.
Let’s do this!
Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging because I needed adult interaction, desired a creative outlet, enjoy learning new skills & mostly because I love being stylish, savvy & sassy. Nowadays, I enjoy staying at home with the kids. All my life experiences help me understand, relate to, appreciate & empathise with both working moms & stay at home moms.
What are your favourite blogging tools of the trade?
I love using Canva for branding & designing images just the way I want them.
What bloggers inspire you the most and why?
I’m inspired by many bloggers, but because I know you don’t have all day, I’ll mention just 3.
Suzi Whitford of Start A Mom Blog: Like me, Suzi’s a wife and mom of three, who left a professional career to focus on her family and decided to do this blogging thing along with this baby-making thing. I relate to her a lot because our stories are similar. Additionally, she gives great blogging information and advice.
Allison Graham of She Does Him: I like Allison’s work for a number of reasons. She’s a very creative thinker and a trendsetter. Although she focuses on fashion for men, I’m inspired by how she is true to herself and is not afraid to take risks and be unique. Best of all, we both are from the Caribbean. (LOL)
Alexandra Thomas of Learning To Be Fearless: Alexandra is not exactly a blogger. She’s a vlogger and a plus size model who is very inspiring. She advocates self-love, body confidence, and positive thinking. In addition to all that, she fearlessly flaunts some fabulous fashions, which I just love.
What’s your best beauty secret?
More sleep, less stress & fearless confidence. No matter how amazing your outfit is, if you look tired, stressed or shy, your beauty won’t shine through.
What is your dream job?
Fashion Editor of a major style/fashion magazine, where I can work on a Caribbean beach with my laptop and an endless supply of pina colada.
Naomi Campbell: Not only because we share the same surname and I secretly believe that we’re sisters (LOL), but because Naomi’s an icon and a living legend in the fashion world. She established herself amongst the most recognizable and in-demand models of the late 1980s and the 1990s and was one of six models of her generation declared supermodels by the fashion industry and the international press. She’s also very versatile and talented. I loved seeing her act in one of my favourite TV shows, Empire.
What’s your favourite autumn 2018 trend?
I have two favourites this year. Fuchsia’s my favourite colour. So, I’m loving that fuchsia’s trending and taking over the catwalk. I also adore animal prints, especially leopard prints. I love taking a walk on the wild side!
What is your favourite story?
The Pursuit of Happyness, starring Will Smith. Yes, Happyness is spelt with a “y” in the movie. Apart from the fact that Will’s such a talented actor and easy on the eyes, the storyline is extremely inspiring and motivating. The movie’s based on a true life story, which makes all that more inspiring. It reminds you that despite constant challenges in life, you can be successful if you believe in yourself and work hard to accomplish your goals. Blogging can be very lonely sometimes and self-doubt can take hold. So this movie is a great reminder to keep moving and believing in yourself & your capabilities.
What’s your main goal in life?
To be there for my family and ensure their health and happiness. I believe that in the end, family, health & happiness is all that matters.
What would you say to a blogger who’s just starting out?
Believe & confidence in yourself. This might sound clichéd, but without self-belief/self-confidence, when you encounter a setback (and you will), you’ll be more likely to give up and accept defeat. Self-belief and confidence can make the difference between you seeing a setback as a failure, or as a set up for a bigger and better future. This can determine your future being a dream come true or a living nightmare.
